Dear Columbia University Community Member,

We would like to invite you to a special event in Miller Theatre on Wednesday, April 15 at 6:30 PM for Project Rebirth, a documentary film about the recovery of 10 individuals deeply affected by the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

The event will feature a 30-minute preview of the film and a conversation with filmmaker Jim Whitaker (Changeling, 8 Mile), Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia, and faculty from Columbia and Georgetown who are using the film to teach courses in a wide range of disciplines. To read more about the Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning's (CCNMTL) work with Project Rebirth, read our press release, With Project Rebirth Columbia and Georgetown Offer Students a Closer Look at Post 9-11 Recovery:

Faculty panelists Katherine Shear of the Columbia School of Social Work and George Bonanno of Teachers College will discuss how they have designed web-based assignments for students to engage in a close viewing of the film and to write analyses to help them better understand the effects of trauma and methods of coping. Georgetown faculty from American Studies and English will discuss how they have used the film to teach students about documentaries for social justice and the rhetoric of trauma.
