Res Gestae: Propaganda in the Ancient World

Partner(s): Myles McDonnell - Arts and Sciences

This Multimedia Study Enviroment offers an English translation of Augustus's famous declaration of his personal and governmental achievements. The document is annotated with definitions and helpful biographies, as well as plans, elevations, and pictures of ancient buildings. At relevant moments in the text, the writings of contemporary historians such as Dio Cassius and Suetonius are also made available.

The combined effect helps the student learn how to read history in light of political propaganda and state-sanctioned expression.
