VITAL at the School of Social Work

Partner(s): Tazuko Shibusawa - School of Social Work

Video Interactions for Teaching and Learning (VITAL), now in its third iteration, is in use in a variety of courses at the School of Social Work. Clinical Practice with couples, taught by Susan Oppenheim, requires students to apply concepts and theoretical frameworks studied in course readings to questions about clinical practice.

Using VITAL, students in Clinical Practice with Couples connect class readings to professionally produced recordings of clinical sessions with couples. By viewing the videos, clipping and annotating segments, and adding those video annotations to assigned essays, students identify and analyze different theoretical models and clinical techniques as well as consider their own intervention methods.
