Biography: George Hearst

George Randolph Hearst III joined the Times Union in 1989 and soon became vice president, associate publisher, and general manager. In this role he helped the paper through several reinvestment initiatives to position the Times Union as a start-of-the-art media enterprise. In 2006, his responsibilities expanded to include product marketing, packaging, and labor relations.

Hearst grew up in California and is a fourth generation descendant of William Randolph Hearst, the American newspaper magnate. Hearst III graduated from Pepperdine University in 1977, and spent many years operating his own financial services company before joining the family business. He has been very active in Albany community service organizations and served as board president for the University at Albany Foundation.
