The field of eugenics was virtually invented by Sir Francis Galton (1822-1911). Here is an overview of the field, "Eugenics: Its Definition, Scope, and Aims," in the form of a paper that he read before a sociological group in London in 1904; the replies to his presentation show the general parameters of the debate. A larger collection of his work is "Essays in Eugenics" (London 1909).
