Dentist Spotlight

In this module we dscussed the concept of life-long learning and how to be an active participant in your own learning. It is hoped that you will use these concepts throughout your resisdedncy, but also when you leave to begin your career, as well as in your personal lives. In the following section we introduce three accomplished dentists each with their own unique perspectives on life-long learning. Take some time to watch these videos and listen as they share their experiences and thoughts about their careers.

Dr. Marcia Irving-Ray

Dr. Marcia Irving-Ray has spent her career practicing dentistry in community-based settings and serving underserved populations. Dr. Irving-Ray received an undergraduate degree in Biology from Rutgers University and her DDS from Howard University , College of Dentistry . Upon completing dental school, she was offered an opportunity as an associate dentist at Smile Health Center in Staten Island , New York . She has since held the position of Dental Director both at Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Inc., and then Harlem United Community AIDS Center , both located in New York . Dr. Irving-Ray was an invited guest to speak on Washington Hill addressing oral health disparities and is a 2005 Department of Health and Human Services Primary Healthcare Policy fellow. Her work has involved community service, addressing issues of access to optimal care for underserved populations, dental education, and the need to change oral health policies.
