The New Media in Education 2010 Conference, hosted by the Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning, is a free day-long event is for faculty, instructors, and the Columbia community to discover creative applications of new media technologies in the classroom. From pedagogical principles to practical applications, the NME 2010 will explore a variety of hot topics in higher education, including the implications, best practices, and effects of new media and technology in teaching and learning.
200 faculty, instructors, and Columbia community members attended the NME 2010. During the day, CCNMTL staff and faculty partners discussed educational challenges in higher education and explore ways for technology to help meet these challenges.

200 faculty, instructors, and the Columbia community members attended the fifth NME 2010. The NME Conference sought to identify and explore the impact of emerging technologies in the classroom. During the day, CCNMTL staff and faculty partners discussed educational challenges in higher education and explored ways for technology to help meet these challenges.
Review past New Media in Education conferences.The NME 2010 offered eight sessions on topics ranging from delivering effective digital presentations to developing web-based health interventions. Sessions were led by CCNMTL educational technology experts and faculty partners, and included multimedia demonstrations. All sessions were 1 hour and 15 minutes long, which incorporated time for guests to contribute their questions and comments. Guests were invited to lunch and a reception following the conference.
Session SpotlightsDigital Natives vs Digital Immigrants: Implications for the Classroom (10:00 AM - 11:15 AM) - Faculty are now contending with students who have grown up with the Internet. This session explored whether this is creating a new learner that requires different approaches to teaching and learning.
Lectures that Stick: Effective Presentations with PowerPoint and Beyond (11:30 AM - 12:45 PM) - This session took an in-depth, critical look at PowerPoint presentations and offered suggestions for improvement, including a look at alternatives such as Google Docs.
