Software
Q. Can I use Netscape 6.x to take the e-seminar?
A. We don't recommend it. Netscape 6 represents a major departure from
previous Netscape browsers. As such, the web pages may not display as
intended. These problems should not occur with earlier versions.
Click here to download Netscape Navigator 4.x for Macintosh or Windows.
Q. I got
a message saying my cookies are disabled. What does this mean?
A. This
seminar uses your browser's "cookie" function to set and remember
your video preferences. We do not use cookies to gather personal information
of any kind. If your cookies are disabled, we cannot set your video
preferences and you will see low-bandwidth video by default when you play a
video clip. If you wish to enable your cookies, follow the instructions for
your browser below:
Netscape Navigator/Communicator 1.
Select "Preferences" from the Edit menu. 2. Click "Advanced" in the
"Category" portion of the window. 3. Under the "Cookies" area, click
either "Accept all cookies," or "Accept only cookies that get
sent back to the originating server." 4. Click "OK."
Internet Explorer 4.x for Windows
1. Select "Internet Options" from the View menu. 2. Click the "Advanced" tab, then
scroll down to "Security." 3. Click "Always accept cookies." 4. Click "OK."
Internet Explorer 5.x for Windows
1. Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu. 2. Select the Security tab, then click the
"Custom Level" button. 3. Locate the "Cookies" section, then
select "Enable" for both Cookies options.
Internet Explorer 4.x and 5.x for Macintosh 1.
Select "Preferences" from the Edit menu. 2. Click on "Receiving files" in the
left side of the window that pops up, and click on "Cookies" in the
menu that appears underneath "Receiving files." 3. On the right side of the window, next to "When
receiving cookies," make sure that either "Never ask," "Ask
for each site," or "Ask for each cookie" is selected. 4. Click "OK."
Q. When I click a popup window, I get a message that says
JavaScript error. What am I doing wrong?
A. Make
sure that you are using one of the required browsers for this seminar:
Netscape Navigator 4.x or above OR Internet Explorer 4.x or above. If you are
still getting this message, make sure JavaScript is enabled by checking the
Preferences in the Tools menu (Internet Explorer) or Edit menu (Netscape).
Q. How
do I download Internet Explorer 4.x/5.x? (PC/Mac)
A. Just
go to the link below, click on it and follow the simple download
instructions. Download now .
Q. I downloaded
Internet Explorer 4.x/5.x, but now I can't find my Internet Explorer 3.x.
Where did it go? (PC)
A. When
you downloaded Internet Explorer 4.x/5.x, it replaced version 3.x.
Q.
How do I download Netscape Navigator 4.x? (PC/Mac)
A. Just
go to the link below, click on it and follow the simple download
instructions. Download
now .
Q.
How do I download the Macromedia Flash Player and why do I need it? (PC/Mac)
A. To
view some of the interactive elements in the seminar, you will need the
Macromedia Flash Player, version 5. To download, just go to the link below,
click on it and follow the simple download instructions. Download now
Q.
Should I download Netscape Communicator or Netscape Navigator? What's the difference?
A. Netscape
Navigator 4.x consists of the browser only. That's all you need for the
seminar. However, Communicator/Netscape 6.x is a communications package
which, in addition to the browser, includes things like email, conferencing,
and rudimentary page-building tools. If you choose to use
Communicator/Netscape 6.x, keep in mind that its default installation requires
quite a bit more memory and disk space. This means that performance probably
will be a tad more sluggish. Navigator is quicker. But, since the standalone
Navigator 4.x doesn't include any email functionality, you can't use the
handy "mail-to" links on Web pages.
Q. How do I view video in the seminar?
A. In
order to view video you will need the free Real Player Basic Video plug-in,
version 7 or higher. To get the plug-in, click on the link below, and look in
the fine print for the "Real Player Basic" link. Click on the link
and follow the downloading instructions. Long download times (up to 1/2 hour)
may be expected on a 56K modem.
It
is not necessary or recommended that you purchase the "Real Player
Plus" plug-in that is featured on the Real player site. Download
now .
Q. I clicked on "Read Excerpt" but I was not able to download anything. Why?
A.
Some e-seminar excerpts are PDF ('portable document format') files that require
the free Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in. Download
now .
Q. I
use AOL. Is there any way I can take the seminar?
A.
Yes.
If you use AOL, you will need to use Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer,
not AOL's default, internal browser. After logging on to AOL, open Netscape
Navigator or Internet Explorer in order to use the seminar. You may need to
contact AOL to configure Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer to work with
AOL's propriety software. Both Netscape and Explorer are free to download and
use. In this scenario, you are connecting to the Internet with AOL's network
but using Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer to surf the seminar. You
may prefer to use Internet Explorer 4.x/5.x because AOL's browser has the
same look and feel. Just make sure you're still logged on to AOL. Do not log
off when using Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer.
Q. I
just left the seminar to go to a link you recommended I visit. How do I get
back to the seminar?
A. In
the top left corner of the browser window, you will see a link that says
"Return to Seminar". Clicking on this link will take you back to
where you left off.

Hardware
Q. How
do I listen to sound in my browser?
A.
First of all, make sure the volume of your computer is turned on. If it is
and you can't hear anything, make sure you have a soundcard and speakers. If
you have a Mac, they're both built-in, but if you have a PC check your
computer's documentation. Almost any computer built in the past five years
has a sound card. If your machine has a soundcard but no speakers you can use
a set of headphones from a Walkman or portable CD playerif your computer has
a headphone plug-in port. You can find that port on your monitor or the back
of your CPU. Note: The headphone jack near CD-ROM drives only works for audio
CDs.
Q. I
just tried playing the video sample, but I got some strange colors in my
monitor and browser window. What happened?
A. Your
display adapter may only be capable of rendering 256 colors, or-more
likely-your display's control panel is set to 256 colors. If that is the
case, set your display's control panel to thousands/millions of colors
(Mac-select "Monitors" or "Monitors & Sound") or high
color/16 bit (PC-select "Display" or right-click on the desktop and
choose "Properties") to correct the problem. You'll need to quit
and relaunch your browser to reset the colors. If your video hardware is not
capable of displaying more than 256 colors at your chosen resolution, the
video will still work, but it may be oddly colored and/or look slightly
fragmented.
Q. My
computer is downloading the seminar pages very slowly. Why?
A. Downloading
files and viewing pages mostly depends on your modem's connection speed. You
might want to try logging in when fewer people are online-such as late at
night or early in the morning. Also, faster computers will be able to display
and run applications quicker. If your machine seems to be having problems or
you experience delays running Netscape Navigator 4.x, you may want to
download Internet Explorer 4.x/5.x. As a general rule, Internet Explorer is
less memory-intensive than Netscape Navigator. This way, you will still be
able to take the seminar and make it a more enjoyable experience, too.
Q. I
don't know what my system configuration is. Can you help me?
A. There is really no way for us to tell you with any certainty what
your system set-up is over the phone or by email. Your best bet is to check
your computer's documentation or ask someone who is technically savvy to look
at your computer.
