These poet-saints of the medieval devotional movement made an invaluable contribution to Marathi literature; their contribution is described in the Imperial Gazetteer . Among them are Ramdas, Eknath, Jnyandeo, Tukaram. Their poetry was woven into the Gandhian vision of the independence struggle, as can be seen from this account of Gandhi's visit to Poona and Vai in 1920.
