The second of the four hierarchically-organized Varnas in the Caste System. According to the Laws of Manu, "The Kshatriya he [the Lord] commanded to protect the people, to bestow gifts, to offer sacrifices, to study (the Veda), and to abstain from attaching himself to sensual pleasures" (I,89).
