Kali is the most fearsome of the many aspects of the Great Goddess. She is depicted in a number of terrifying and even grotesque forms; she has often been worshipped with the blood sacrifice of animals, but even in Dr. Ambedkar's day this practice was on the decline. Gandhi too disapproved of animal sacrifice to Kali, which he had observed in Calcutta in 1902.
