The Bengal Presidency was "the largest and most populous" of the provinces in the British colonial administrative system, as the Imperial Gazetteer duly noted. Among the Gazetteer maps, Eastern Bengal received a map, and the presidency's capital city of Calcutta was given two maps: a general locator map, and a detailed city map.
