Muslim case for separation

note <

Separatism was one of the NOI's most important nationalist goals. It was believed that the acquisition of land and a separate self-governing state would afford better opportunities to expand and develop businesses, farming cooperatives and other self-help projects. The possibility of acquiring territory in one of several southern states was discussed with such radical individuals and groups as George Rockwell and the Klu Klux Klan who saw the NOI case for separation as a benefit to their own racist agendas. There were also rumors that Elijah Muhammad accepted funds from an American millionaire, H.L. Hunt, who supported many radical groups. While this goal remained a specific part of the NOI economic program, supported by membership dues, a specific site was never identified or chosen.
