Malcolm X was killed at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City on February 21, 1965. Three men were convicted of Malcolm's murder, Talmadge Hayes was held by the crowd after the assassination and later arrested. Weeks later, on his word, Thomas Johnson and Norman Butler were arrested as well. All three were former members of the NOI and all were sentenced to life imprisonment.Many questions still surround the assassination of Malcolm X. Despite their public dispute with Malcolm, NOI officials denied any involvement in the shooting. There are still discussions concerning the involvement of the FBI, CIA and BOSSI, the New York City Police Department special unit.
