Wallace Muhammad

note <

Malcolm later refers to Wallace as "Mr. [Elijah] Muhammad's most strongly spiritual son, the son with the most objective outlook."Interestingly, after the death of Elijah Muhammad in 1975, Wallace Muhammad, having been named supreme minister, deemed that whites were no longer evil and that they could, in fact, join the Nation of Islam. He also introduced many elements of orthodox Sunni Islam into the Nation, a move that alienated many of the Nation's members. The Nation thus splintered, and in 1978, Minister Louis Farrakhan took control of the Nation, returning its theology, black nationalist politics, and, ultimately, the strategy of complete racial separation. -DF
