Organized by Elijah Muhammad in 1934, he called the second Temple "The Allah Temple of Islam." It was an ambitious endeavor since Muhammad had to deal with institutional racism in housing (an officer in the Nation is quoted as saying that "it seems as though as soon as the real estate owners found that we were Moslems (sic) they raised the rent.")
