Biography: Julie Jacobson

Julie Jacobson went to the University of Kansas, where she received her degree in journalism. She joined the Kansas City Star as a photographer after graduation. The AP hired her in 2001 as a staff photographer in San Francisco. She covered major sporting events such as the Winter Olympics and the World Series in 2002 before embarking on her first embed in Iraq in the spring of 2003 as a member of the AP’s New York bureau. Thereafter, she took photos as an embedded photographer during another tour in Iraq in 2004, and two tours in Afghanistan in 2009 and 2010. After returning from Afghanistan for the second time, Jacobson covered the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Thereafter, she moved to AP’s Las Vegas bureau.
