Scholarly Publishing

Emerging technologies have the potential to transform the design of new systems of scholarly publishing. What are the implications of such developments to the creation, dissemination, and application of new knowledge? Does the promise of wider access to such materials provide new opportunities in undergraduate and graduate education?

We will discuss the impact of changes in scholarly publishing on the creation, dissemination, and application of new knowledge in the classroom. Kate Wittenberg, Director of Electronic Publishing Initiative at Columbia (EPIC) will introduce this session with examples of the classroom use of two of Columbia's electronic publications, CIAO and Earthscape.
