Deborah Howell was the
Washington Post
s Ombudsman, a position she has held since October 2005. In addition to fielding external complaints, Howell served as the papers internal conscience, writing a weekly column in the editorial page about an issue or article of her choosing. A veteran journalist, she had spent the prior 15 years as the Washington Bureau Chief of Newhouse News Service. She has also served as the editor of the
