OASIS

https://oasis.cumc.columbia.edu

OASIS is a the student record and course management tool that we will be using starting Fall 2014. OASIS integrates scheduling, evaluation, curriculum mapping and student records in one platform which will make accessing the curriculum much easier for students and faculty once it is fully implemented. It also does this in the way we need to demonstrate compliance with medical school accreditation standards. In an effort to simplify the way we deliver the curriculum, OASIS will now be the principal calendar and evaluation system. In the clinical curriculum, OASIS will also facilitate scheduling rotations and electives.
Log in to OASIS using your UNI and password.

  1. Starting in August 2014, students will use OASIS to check course rosters, sync daily calendars, check grades and assessments and to submit evaluations of P&S courses
  2. Students will continue to use CourseWorks to access learning resources including syllabi, lecture slides, assigned readings and cases, to sign up for selected sessions, submit assignments and to receive emails from faculty and staff

Virtual Microscopy

http://histologylab.ccnmtl.columbia.edu

Instead of physical microscopes you will be using virtual microscopy in the SBPMD Histology laboratory section. The online lab manual provides access to the virtual slides. Each topic is briefly introduced, and then there is a description of each specimen followed by a link to the slide.

You are advised to register your laptop for wired access so you are not all trying to access the slides on the wireless network. To register, go to this website http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/it/getting_started/wired.html, or visit the Help Desk on Hammer 2nd Floor. To access the virtual slides from an off-campus location, you will need to install and run the Virtual Private Network (VPN). The VPN provides access to restricted sites on the campus network. Here's the link to the VPN information: http://www.cubhis.org/getting_started/vpn.html.

ExamSoft

ExamSoft is a secure, reliable electronic exam delivery system used by some courses at Columbia University Medical Center. The system is being rolled out for course exams in at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the College of Dental Medicine, the Mailman School of Public Health, and the School of Nursing. Students who are informed that they will be taking an electronic exam on their personal laptop should follow the download and registration instructions that they receive from school administrators. This process involves downloading a test-taking software called SofTest onto a personal laptop. Students download exams when instructed, bring their laptops to exams, and open password-protected exam files in order to take an exam. The SofTest software locks down the computer so that only the exam can be accessed and viewed, and continuously saves student work every minute throughout the exam. Once the exam is over and the student reconnects to the internet, the completed exam file is uploaded and can be viewed and scored by administrators and faculty.

Students: download & register software here
