Petition to Revise DMCA for Educators

Provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act serve as a deterrent to teachers and instructors in the use of copyrighted materials under fair use at a time when media literacy competencies are most needed.

The Library of Congress Copyright Office has released a petition that would provide additional exceptions protecting the rights of instructors to use copyrighted materials for teaching media literacy, similar to the protections which already exist for Film Studies.

Educators are invited to submit comments of support for this petition by February 2, 2009.
