RefAware: Personal Research Assistant

RefAware is a convenient service from RefWorks, the bibliographic citation management software company, that keeps you notified of newly released journal articles in your subject area of interest.

RefAware canvases the Internet 24/7 for new content from over 8,000 peer-reviewed and other non-refereed publications that match your specific search terms. Simply enter your search criteria on the website and RefAware populates the results page automatically and, if you wish, will notify you via email as new content becomes available. A search profile can have multiple search criteria such as specific keyword terms, author names, or publication sources, and can include journals from various disciplines such as Social Sciences, Engineering, Life Science, Business, and Arts and Humanities. Once the profile is built, you can view, save and print the references or export them into a variety of bibliographic citation management programs like RefWorks and EndNote. You can also share the resulting list of articles by embedding the RSS feed that is created into a wiki, blog or course website.

To use the service, Columbia affiliates can visit the RefAware site and register with your Columbia email to gain access to Columbia-licensed privileges. Within minutes you should receive an email that confirms your account; you may then sign into the RefAware site. To learn more about the service and preview the interface, watch this screencast.
