Hydro-Management on Lake Chicamba in Mozambique
Improving multi-use reservoir management with forecasts

Principle # 13 4 5 6

Principle 2: Does climate matter?
Lake Chicamba is fed by the Zambezi watershed, gathering water from tributaries in Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe and flowing eastwards for 3,000 kilometres before reaching the Indian Ocean off Mozambique. Extremes in rainfall over the extensive Zambezi watershed (see map) strongly influence streamflow and ultimately, the water levels in the Chicamba reservoir. Therefore, climate clearly has an impact on Filipe's management decisions.
