Effective Team Communication
Barriers to Team Communication
Concepts that are completely unique and have limited or no meaning for
other team emembers.
Concepts overlad and have some meaning to eahc of hte professions, but
the meain may be in conflict. A family physician considers stress to be
physically diagnosed and treated while a psychologist may be interested
in long-term therapy to control stress.
Result of differences in use of jargon causes cognitive dissonance, a process
triggered when a concept appears to have meaning, but is contrary to or
in conflict with the person's cognitive framework or mental model. This
can be a greater barrier to communications than a total lack of understanding.
Reflect on how the causes problems with team members, patients.
