Dennis Smith was associate professor at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University, where among other things he taught performance management and program evaluation. Smith had conducted numerous studies of performance management, including in New York City government, and was the co-author, with former NYPD Commissioner William Bratton, of an analysis of Compstat, “Compstat and the Revolution in Police Management.”
