C. Aortic Stenosis

When the leaflets of the aortic valve fail to open fully during ejection, they can impede ejection of blood from the left ventricle.

In this exercise you will consider the following:

  1. How does aortic stenosis affect the shape of the PV loop?
  2. What is the relationship between peak left ventricular pressure and peak aortic pressure as a function of aortic stenosis severity?
  3. How do varying degrees of aortic stenosis severity influence cardiac output and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure?
