Freebase: An Open Database

Freebase is an open database of the world's information. Similar to Wikipedia in goals, Freebase differs by how information is organized. Freebase focuses on facts and statistics rather than articles. Freebase data is meant to be reusable for other purposes including web sites and research articles. Freebase's open, wiki-like approach to information organization means that anyone can contribute or correct data. Like Wikipedia, it is expected to grow without formal, centralized planning around a variety of topics and categories. In Freebase's terminology, Columbia University is a topic. Its fledging entry is found here: http://www.freebase.com/view/en/columbia_university.
