Biography: Mary Fran Gleason

Mary Fran Gleason was promoted to managing editor of the Times Union in July 2002, a year after she joined the paper as managing editor for features and sports. Before joining the Times Union , she spent 12 years with the Syracuse Newspapers in a variety of reporting and senior management roles, including assistant managing editor/metro and assistant managing editor/features. Mary Fran began her journalism career working for the Shelter Island Reporter, a weekly newspaper serving her hometown of Shelter Island, NY. She holds a master's degree in public affairs reporting from Columbia College in Chicago and a degree in English with a business concentration from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ. She was an adjunct professor of journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University and has taught journalism at the University at Albany.
