The New York Times is prototyping a feature they call article skimmer. The goal is "to provide [the spread-the-_New-York-Times_-on-the-tabletop] experience anytime.... We display as many stories as we can fit into the space of your screen." The article skimmer gets the headlines and leads of as many stories that fit in your browser window. In many ways, this view of the newspaper resembles the simplified views now available for mobile devices.

For best results, keep your browser window in a landscape-oriented mode, otherwise you might miss some of the controls. Articles pop up within the space and have simple controls on the top-left. Use the help button on top-right to learn the keyboard shortcuts.
