Teaching in Social and Technological Networks

George Siemens writes about the role of the teacher in this absorbing blog post on teaching in social networks. Mr. Siemens describes a world where "for educators, control is being replaced with influence. Instead of controlling a classroom, a teacher now influences or shapes a network." He goes on to explain seven roles a teacher plays in networked learning environments:

  1. Amplifying
  2. Curating
  3. Wayfinding and socially-driven sensemaking
  4. Aggregating
  5. Filtering
  6. Modeling
  7. Persistent presence
